Wilf's Cabin is on the Woolfield deep in the heart of The New Forest. A self-contained, self-catering log cabin which offers a double bed room with en-suite shower and wc; a cosy sitting room with freesat tv; and a compact galley kitchen. In the attic space there are two, additional 6'0"single beds accessible by a wooden ladder.
Ideal for walkers, cyclists and for riders who wish to bring their horses. There are two stables, two paddocks and a tack room adjacent to the cabin. (Horses £15.00phpn max 4 horse by arrangement)
The New Forest National Park covers some 144 square miles of the most stunning and variable countryside in southern England. Broad-leaved and coniferous woodlands, linked with hundreds of miles of gravelled tracks, open out onto heather covered heaths or endless forest lawns which are closely cropped by the thousands of cattle and ponies that roam freely throughout the Forest. Dozens of clear, sparkling streams spring from the bogs and mires and unite to form the Avon, Beaulieu and Lymington rivers which flow out into the Solent which, with its beautiful beaches, forms the southern Boundary of the Forest. The ideal, secluded retreat for riders, carriage drivers, cyclists, walkers, bird watchers, fungi foragers, anglers, shooters and romantics. The only privately-owned, holiday property within a New Forest Inclosure.

    “Lovely little break”

After some initial confusion over the booking (where an email arrived in my junk mail and was therefore unread), the booking was cancelled. We eventually managed to re-arrange, but I was disappointed that I wasn't actually called to discuss the issue. Anyway, we arrived on a somewhat wet and miserable Friday afternoon but were greeted nicely, shown where to park our vehicles and shown into the cabin. First impression; It's fairly basic. If you're looking for a short break in a pretty surrounding area and you're not too fussy about the quality of your accommodation then this suits. It's ideal for a family, maybe with animals. But we would have liked something a bit cleaner/smarter. The actual cabin itself lacked invitation. It's crying out for some TLC. It has potential to be very nice! We weren't impressed with the smell, of what we could only assume was maybe dogs / horses. The sofa cushions really were bad, so not exactly inviting or comfortable when you're trying to snuggle up in the evening... We were disappointed to see cobwebs everywhere and we actually hoovered them all up on our arrival! And although this is a self-catering property, it would have been nice if there were some everyday essentials i.e. coffee, sugar, oil, milk etc.. A little touch does make a difference. We did have a good game of Scrabble though! So a little touch like board games was nice, and we were grateful for the heaters, as it does get cold in the property. I personally suffer with lower back pain and the bed really didn't help, which is a shame, but there was plenty of bedding to keep us warm and comfortable. The saving grace is the surrounding forest, which really is beautiful. Would we come back? No. But we did have a really nice break in the New Forest.

I am sorry to hear that unlike dozens of people who return time after time to Wilf’s cabin you felt that it lacked invitation. The cabin is completely serviced between visitors and the soft furnishings are changed regularly. I have noted your comments in this matter and will investigate. Coffee, sugar and tea are supplied in appropriately labelled tins on the shelf in the kitchen and we are happy to supply whatever our self-catering visitors might have forgotten. It is unfortunate that the bed didn’t suit you, it is a new mattress and has proved to be very popular but we can’t cater for all conditions. The cabin is unique in its location and what it offers to families and animal owners but, sadly, didn’t meet your personal requirements. However, I am sure that you will be able to find something that will come up to your expectations should you decide to revisit the New Forest.

From the Burley services on the A31 go over the cattle grids, and onto the forest. Proceed to Burley Street and opposite the redundant post office turn left into Forest Road. Proceed to the end of Forest Road and turn left. Proceed for approximately 1mile and opposite Burley New Cottage/workshop turn left onto a gravel track signed to Old House. Proceed straight ahead and through a five-bar gate into the forest enclosure. Do not turn left and go over the cattle grid and onto a tarmac road. Proceed through the enclosure for one mile and at the first all-gravel crossroad turn left. The cottage will be found 500 metres along this track.
