The Station House at Holmsley
Regarded as an oasis in the heart of the new forest, The Station House at Holmsley has long been a popular tea house frequented by visitors to this stunning area of natural beauty.
Built in 1847, this fine Victorian building has been lovingly restored and as the name suggests was once the main railway station for Christchurch. The property is steeped in history and before the railway closed in 1964, the station welcomed royalty and also played its part during world war II. Being situated on an old railway line (affectionately known as the Castleman's corkscrew) it is now a prime location for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
The emphasis here is on good quality food at reasonable prices with a wide and varied menu complemented by a constantly changing specials board. There is a great selection of tasty breakfasts, light bites including toasted sandwiches, baguettes, jacket potatoes and salads. The lunch time favourites include steak and kidney in a suet pudding and local ham, free range eggs and chips. The specials board reflects seasonal produce available and always includes fresh fish and vegetarian options. As the food is prepared by professional chefs customers with special dietary needs are easily catered for. There are great options for children as well as tempting locally made cakes and freshly made patisseries for the perfect afternoon treat, not forgetting the selection of cream teas with scones being made fresh everyday on the premises.
Open all year round from 10am every day. During the summer the restaurant is also open some evenings with a contemporary bistro style menu. There is easy level access and excellent disabled facilities along with ample parking for those travelling by car.
