Water Sports in The New Forest

Luxury sunset sails to adrenalin-rush Rib rides . . . and the south coast’s first water-skiing and wakeboarding cable system

Whether you like adrenalin-rush rib rides or luxury sunset sails, the New Forest is the natural choice when it comes to water sports along its stunning coastline.

The New Forest is most commonly known for its fantastic New Forest walking routes or cycling routes, in its beautiful woods and open moors where wild ponies roam free. Its hidden gem, which is less well known, is a wonderful 43 miles of glorious coastline.

For all those who like to relax and take it easy on the water in their sailing boats will be pleased to know that throughout the New Forest there are gorgeous coastal villages where you can moor your boat. Boat moorings are available at Keyhaven, Lymington and Bucklers hard; why not buy some delicious New Forest produce and have a picnic on the water.

For those who want to meet new people and experience the beauty of the forest then there are venues across the New Forest that host water sport events. From kayaking tours which explore the gorgeous New Forest rivers to yachting events; you’ll be spoilt for choice on your water sports holiday here in the forest.

The New Forest is home to Escape Yachting, which makes a skippered champagne cruise an affordable treat with sunset sails or discovery days. You can also tour the Solent on a fast Rib or Sunseeker with Solent Events.
Thrill seekers can head to the 50 acre New Forest Water Park featuring the south coast’s first water-skiing and wakeboarding cable system, bound to excite even the biggest thrill seekers. Within The New Forest Water Park you can also take part in activities such as kayaking, canoeing, banana boat rides and so much more - perfect for an action-packed day on the water!
Beaulieu and Buckler’s Hard are great for messing about on the river. Beaulieu is the home to New Forest Activities, which makes planning your water-based activities easy. Just choose what takes your fancy and let them take the hassle out of the arrangements. They’ll provide all the equipment and expert advice you need for safe fun on the water.

New Forest shores among ‘recommended beaches’ to visit

Popular New Forest beaches at Calshot, Milford-on-Sea and Barton-on-Sea are among the Marine Conservation Society’s recommended beaches 2013.

All three have a Solent Water Quality Award and are featured in the Good Beach Guide, which can be viewed online at

Only beaches which achieve the highest standard for clean bathing water are recommended in the guide.

Councillor Edward Heron, New Forest District Council’s portfolio holder for environment, said: “We are very privileged to have such a wonderful coastline on our doorstep and are proud to be recognised in the Good Beach Guide. The council works hard to ensure that people can enjoy the high quality of our beaches and bathing water and I hope many will do so.”

The beach at Lepe Country Park in the New Forest, managed by Hampshire County Council, is also a recommended beach.
The New Forest Paddle Sport Company is based in Milford on Sea. You can explore the scenic coastline of the New Forest in a Kayak or on a Stand-up Paddle Board. They also provide equipment to allow you to take the kit away for the weekend!
