Resturant: The Fisherman's
Review Date: 4th January 2008
I have had a few very nice meals out at The Fisherman’s in Lymington. I first went there to celebrate a family birthday. Although, not a big fan of seafood and fish, I was feeling adventurous as The Fisherman’s is particularly known for seafood in the area.
I started with crab cakes with a Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce, which were delicious. For my main course I chose the locally caught Sea Bass – freshly caught in the Solent that day accompanied with stir-fried vegetables, also in a Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the Sea Bass and could almost have been converted in to a fish fan!
I returned to The Fisherman’s later for a meal with a fairly large group, and again had a very nice meal. As we had to pre-order I decided not to go with the fish this time, so started with a tomato and mozzarella salad, followed by pork in a mushroom sauce on a bed of mustard mash. Once again the pork fully stood up to my expectations and was delicious, particularly the mustard mash which was unusual but complimented the pork nicely.
I found that the portions were just right and nicely filling however I still had space for the delicious fruits of the forest cheesecake which was to follow. Although The Fisherman’s is a fairly small pub and I had thought it would be a bit of a squeeze to fit us all in (we were a group of about 20), however this was not a problem and we were very well looked after and the speed of service was just right.
