Former home to geologist Charles Lyell, a friend of Charles Darwin, the grade II listed Bartley Lodge Hotel is steeped in history and tucked away at the end of a meandering drive, surrounded by eight acres of beautiful gardens, dense woods and open meadows filled with free roaming ponies.
Individually designed with bold colours of florals, the hotel's 40 comfy bedrooms are decorated in country-house style with many boasting garden views. There's an indoor, heated swimming pool for relaxing dips - ideal if it's raining - and an impressive AA Rosette-awarded restaurant showcasing the best of British using fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally.
Family friendly, dogs are welcome to stay too.
