Matley Wood is a small and secluded campsite in a beautiful woodland setting, providing the ultimate in tranquillity. Side-by-side with nature and surrounded by oak trees, free roaming ponies and miles of cycleways and walkways, this site has direct access to the forest. There really is no better way to gain a more authentic New Forest experience from your tent!
Not surprisingly, because of its unique environment and rare mix of habitats that support animal and plant life, the New Forest is an area of special interest. The New Forest is a haven to local wildlife; it is home to the UK’s largest breeding population of the rare Dartford Warbler, while all three native species of snake can be discovered in the Forest - the adder, grass snake and smooth snake.
Equally, it is home to rare and impressive plant life. Around 700 species of wildflower are said to grow in the New Forest - a third of the total found in Britain, while rare plants such as the blue marsh gentian and the bog orchid grow in the New Forest mires.
From Matley Wood there is direct access to the Forest, and the pretty village of Brockenhurst can be reached directly from the campsite by bike without the need to take any roads. The campsite is also within walking distance of Lyndhurst, offering a fantastic selection of restaurants, shops and pubs. The National Motor Museum and Beaulieu Palace are just five miles away and hold special events throughout the season.
The New Forest Tour open-top sightseeing bus stops at this campsite during the summer months.
Dogs are welcome at Matley Wood.
