Things to Do in Hythe and the Waterside

The waterside town of Hythe has an interesting history. It’s well worth approaching the town by catching the Hythe ferry which crosses Southampton Water. Not only can you see the shipping movements and perhaps even some of the luxurious cruise liners, you’ll get an excellent view of the Hythe Pier, with the oldest working pier train in the world (it’s even in the Guinness Book of Records for it!).

Shop along the Georgian High Street or at the town’s regular market and look out for themed markets which take place throughout the year at various times.

Located on the shore of the Solent you'll find Calshot Activities Centre, one of the south's largest activity centres! Here you can enjoy their amazing climbing complex, a dry ski slope, an indoor velodrome and a whole host of water sports on the coastal waters.

Families will enjoy nearby Lepe Country Park with its beach, walks and nature trails. It’s an ideal place for cycling too. Keep a look out for the guided nature walks and family activities in the school holidays as well.

If you fancy walking a bit further then the 60-mile Solent Way passes through Hythe. You can opt to walk the whole route or perhaps take sections of it and enjoy some of the scenic views as you stroll through the countryside and coastline as it passes nearby to Hythe.

Cycle the circular ‘Looping Lepe and Exbury’ route which passes along our National Park’s beautiful coastline.

Enjoy a spot of fishing nearby and pick up supplies at Noble’s Fishing Shop or take to the waters with Calshot Sailing Club, located nearby.

In Dibden, the Dibden Golf Centre offers two fabulous courses, both offering stunning views of the surrounding area.

Some of our top attractions are also located just down the road from Hythe & Dibden - Exbury GardensNational Motor Mueseum in Beaulieu and Buckler's Hard.
