Things to Do in Lyndhurst

Lyndhurst is often referred to as the centre or ‘capital’ of the New Forest. There is plenty to do in the area and the village makes a great base for exploring the New Forest on foot or bike.

A great place to start your visit is by a trip to the New Forest Heritage Centre. Here you will find a wealth of information about the special history of the area. The Centre is also home to regular exhibitions and holds various events throughout the year.

Get active in and around Lyndhurst

Hire a bike from The Woods Cyclery or AA Bike Hire (or bring your own along) and cycle some of the fantastic bike routes that start from Lyndhurst. Enjoy the long Lyndhurst to Burley route passing through the forest at Bolderwood.

Walk along some of the countryside lanes and off-road trails either on the Lyndhurst Parish Walk, on a route of your choosing or whilst being guided by local guides.

Learn about the New Forest’s special nature

Just a couple of miles away from the heart of Lyndhurst you will come across the New Forest Reptile Centre. Here you can learn about the native reptile species that you can find in the National Park.

In the next village over, Minstead, you will find the stunning Furzey Gardens. Where you can see a spectacular array of flora and fauna in this enchanting garden attraction. Make sure you look our for fairy doors while exploring the grounds.

Make a visit to nearby Bolderwood where you can pick up one of the trails or watch the deer being fed by one of the New Forest National Park rangers.
