It’s going to be another Easter spent with rules and restrictions, but that’s nothing to be down about, there are lots of ways everyone can still enjoy Easter this year, even if it’s not spending it how you usually would! We’ve come up with lots of eggs-cellent ideas for you…

If you’re local, get outside and take an outdoor walk amongst the stunning wildlife in the New Forest and watch the spring nature come to life – with bright flowers blossoming, green leaves on the trees and new born animals taking their first steps across the forest floors.

Get creative with the kids and make Easter themed pictures using natural items found on the floor, such as leaves, sticks and stones (but please don’t disturb or damage any of our wildlife)!

Head out on a walk to find some bright and beautiful daffodils within the National Park or in the green areas of your town or village.

Make sure you take some photographs of your creations and daffodil and other spring nature finds to share with us on social media, or just to remind yourself how you’ve enjoyed a fantastic Easter! Government restrictions still ask us to keep local, so find a local walking route – we have lots of walking route suggestions on our website which take you along the heathlands and within the shaded woodlands of the New Forest.

Pack up an Easter Picnic! Why not fill an Easter Basket full of goodies, grab your picnic blanket and either head off to enjoy a lovely afternoon outdoors, full of Easter fun and tasty eats! Chocolate eggs, hot cross buns, egg and cress sandwiches, a refreshing drink and some outdoor games are just some ideas of goods to place in your basket. Remember to keep local; you could even have your picnic in the garden!  You could spend the day before baking up a storm at home, making delicious Easter themed treats to pack in your basket and enjoy the next day – how about some Easter Cornflake chocolate nest cakes, Creme Egg brownies, Mini Egg rocky road or just some simple yet tasty cookies with decorations inspired by Easter!

Take a break from cooking a big meal this Easter and order your Easter Lunch in! Lots of pubs and restaurants across the New Forest are offering takeaway and delivery of mouthwatering dishes for a fantastic Easter spread. From traditional Easter Lunch, other Roast Dinner options, pub classics and many other choices available, you’ll be sure to find something the whole family likes. Some cafes and tearooms are also offering takeaway Easter afternoon teas – yum!

For some other fun Easter activities to keep the kids entertained at home, enjoy looking through Longdown Activity Farm’s video logs on Facebook of their cute animals having fun at the farm, including this cute video of their little chicks! Or print out and create masterpieces with our New Forest themed colouring sheets, or find all the words in our New Forest themed wordsearches.

Hopefully our ideas will have helped you come up with some cracking ways to spend Easter this year – however you spend the weekend this year, make sure you have a brilliant time, full of fun and smiles!

* This year, Easter weekend is from Friday 2nd April to Monday 5th April. Following the current Government roadmap (as at Monday 15 March) from Monday 29th March outdoor gatherings of either 6 people or 2 households will be allowed, providing greater flexibility for families to see each other. Although the ‘Stay at Home’ order will end on Monday 29th March, people are still advised to stay as local as possible to where they live.
