Later this month, on Sunday 20 June, it’s the day to celebrate just how special your dad is, as it’s Father’s Day 2021.

Father’s Day is a great time to be able to make special memories with your dad for years to come, and where better to do this than the beautiful New Forest? In this blog, we have some top ideas for Father’s Day, whether it’s places to find dad the perfect gift, or some exciting activities for a day out to remember. Read on to find out more…

Tip top events for a day out with dad

We have some fantastic events happening on Father’s Day including a special Father’s Day Cruise upon Steamship Shieldhall. Not only can you enjoy the music of the Shieldhall Stompers jazz band but you can watch some of the cruise ships depart from Southampton waters too. A great day out for any maritime enthusiast.

If you fancy being active then book onto a Father’s Day Papa’s Paddle along the Beaulieu River with New Forest Activities. Cruise along the river and enjoy some ‘boat bevvys’ along the way. Pre-booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Not far away at Beaulieu National Motor Museum, the Hot Rod & Custom Show will be taking place. This is your chance to discover a whole array of hot rod and custom cars, chat to the owners and take in all things motoring-related at the National Motor Museum. Plus, there will be live music and entertainment throughout the day.

Other ideas for your daddy day out

There are some amazing places across the forest for you to have a family day out. Book tickets for Paulton’s Park and you can check out the new Tornado Springs area featuring eight new rides and experiences. For daddies with younger children, there’s also the ever-popular Peppa Pig World.

Daddy and you can get hands-on with some farm-related activities at Longdown Activity Farm such as feeding the goats and calves. Subject to the weather and ground conditions, there are also usually daily tractor rides too. Great fun for all ages!

For dads that love a bit of adrenalin, why not book a wakeboarding session or a slot on the inflatable obstacle course at the New Forest Water Park, near Fordingbridge?

Another great day out for all the family is to hire a bike from one of our cycle hire centres (again, pre-booking is strongly recommended). There are miles of cycle tracks and routes you can follow that criss-cross the National Park whether dad is an avid cyclist or if you are just looking for a short, flat circuit that all the family can join in with.

Explore Exbury Gardens with dad and hop aboard the miniature steam train that whisks you past some of the beautiful floral displays. With woodland glades to walk through and scenic views, why not grab a picnic and relax in the tranquil surroundings?

Unique gift ideas from the New Forest

Perhaps you’d like to send dad something special from the New Forest to share happy memories of times spent here? We have some great boutique shops dotted around the area that offer gifts you can’t just find anywhere. If dad has a sweet tooth then he’ll love to receive an array of flavours of fudge from Burley Fudge Shop or some New Forest Shortbread – yum yum!

Or for something a bit different, you could order dad a hamper from The Forest Foodie – check out what's on the menu in their blog and support local businesses this Father's Day.

Book a table

With indoor and outdoor dining now allowed, Father’s Day is a lovely time to take dad out for some food. Whether you fancy a brunch, a lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, you will find a wide array of cafes, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs in and around the New Forest offering special menus or deals for Father’s Day. Like with the activities mentioned above, we strongly recommend you booking your table in advance to guarantee your place and to avoid disappointment.

Escape for the weekend

There’s still some time to grab some last-minute availability* for a short break over Father’s Day weekend. Check out the vacancies at eco-friendly Cottage Lodge Hotel or Bridge House B&B, both in Brockenhurst. Set in secluded woodlands, Dale Farm House, near Dibden Purlieu is a great base for walking, cycling or horse riding plus offers some tasty breakfasts!

*availability as at 27/5/21 – please check our website for the latest availability.
