The summer haze may be beginning to fade away, but those autumn months are on their way… pack your bags and put the New Forest top of your agenda for September! In this blog, we look at some of the top reasons to make the New Forest your next go to destination.

Learn some new skills in the New Forest

Ever fancied giving something new a try? Come back from your holiday with some new skills to impress your friends. How about trying Beekeeping for Beginners? The course is perfect for anyone interested in, or recently owning their own hives or for anyone wanting to learn about beekeeping. It’s running on several dates in September at New Park Farm, Brockenhurst.

If you’d prefer to learn a more creative skill then book onto the Wet Felting session on 4 September at St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery, Lymington. Create a masterpiece for your home which you can treasure for years to come.

Take in the changing colours of nature

With autumn fast approaching, now is a great time to still enjoy the longer days of summer combined with the beginnings of the transition into autumn. Our gardens are ideal places to start so why not pop Exbury Gardens, Furzey Gardens and the grounds and gardens of Beaulieu on your itinerary? Another great way to take in our nature is to embark one of our many walking routes, just don’t forget your camera!

Calling all transport enthusiasts

Whether cars, motorbikes or boats are your thing, or you simply want a day out with a difference, there are lots of opportunities this month to see and experience some different days out.

On 4-5 September, Beaulieu will be holding its annual International Autojumble, a fantastic chance to buy anything automotive related from a whole host of stalls. Later in the month, there will be various car meets at Beaulieu too, including Simply French (12 September), Simply BMW (19 September) and Simply British Classics (26 September).

On 12 September, New Milton’s Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum will stage their Vintage Japanese Bike Day. Ride your Japanese bike in or pop along to see the range of bikes on display. Entry to bike meet is free but please note, admission to the museum is chargeable.

Any boating enthusiasts will no doubt have the Southampton Boat Show on the calendar. But did you know that you can see it from a slightly different perspective aboard the Steamship Shieldhall? The ship will be running a special Southampton Boat Show Cruise on 12 September.

Discover some of our producers and creatives

After a break due to the pandemic, the Beaulieu Farmers’ Market is set to return on 11 September – come along and discover some of the local produce on offer. If you can’t make that date then be sure to check out some of the other markets across the New Forest too, there are regular markets in Ringwood, Lymington, New Milton and Hythe.

On 25 September, there will be the New Forest Marque Roadshow held at Hoburne Park, Bashley. Come along and meet some of the New Forest Marque members who will be showcasing their products for you to purchase and enjoy.

The New Forest inspires a lot of creativity, and much of this can be found in our galleries and exhibitions featuring local artists. From 11 September, for example, a new exhibition entitled ‘New Forest Art, The Past and The Present’ opens at New Forest Heritage Centre, Lyndhurst featuring works by local artists Barry Peckham and Peter Frost. Keep your eyes peeled for other upcoming exhibitions by browsing our events listings.

Top entertainment – shows, comedy, theatre and more

It’s so great to see our theatres, arts centres and venues reopening for events and entertainment and there are some crackers of events on this month including a concert by the Brockenhurst Music Society on 13 September, She'Koyokh String Trio at Forest Arts Centre, New Milton, 17 September and various comedy gigs across the forest (see our events listings for more details)

On 17 September, there’s also the chance to try and solve the Murder Mystery - The Mystery of Grave End, at Furzey Gardens.

Make a break of it

Although our accommodation here in the New Forest is still pretty booked up, we’d recommend looking out for last-minute availability and special offers on our website. Keep checking back as availability can change at short notice.

Wishing you all some great New Forest adventures this September!
