If you love the New Forest as much as we do, there’s no better way to treat yourself and your family than a camping trip. You’re spoilt for choice with fantastic Camping in the Forest sites to choose from, so, to help you pick, here’s our 48 hour itinerary at family favourite site Holmsley.

Day 1

Once you’ve arrived on the campsite, take a moment or two to explore your surroundings.

You’ll be reminded of times gone by as the campsite occupies part of what used to be Holmsley Airfield in WWII. The site is peppered with large open spaces and secluded spots for you to explore and you can access nearby way-marked walking routes to stretch your legs after your journey.

Plus, it’s perfect to reacquaint yourself with the wildlife - keep a look out for the free-roaming New Forest ponies as they go about their daily business!

Next up, if the kids are raring to let off some steam, the site boasts a great play area for them to enjoy.

Eager to feel the sand between your toes again? Spend the afternoon on the coast. Holmsley is ideally located for some of the best beaches in the South, from the popular Bournemouth beach, or the picturesque Mudeford Sandbank - having a splash in the sea will do wonders for your soul!

At the end of a busy day, there are plenty of nearby restaurants for the family to gather and enjoy a meal together.

On your return to the campsite, embrace the tranquil sights and sounds of the forest at night. Listen out for the distant rustle of the birds returning to the nests of the nearby trees, and the ponies grazing, as you cosy up in your unit for some well-earned kip.

Day 2

Nature calls! After a restful sleep you’re sure to hear the morning alarm clock of the local wildlife.

So, get yourself ready to explore once more as you take advantage of the campsite’s full facilities – toilets, showers and washing areas.

For your second day have an exciting adventure at New Forest Activities. Take a guided canoeing tour on the Beaulieu River, learn archery together, or battle it out against one another on an action-packed laser tag experience – watch out Mum and Dad!

Then, spend the afternoon discovering the nearby charming villages of the New Forest. Explore Brockenhurst, by bike, and take a ride on the cycle routes through the forest. Or for something a little more leisurely, take a stroll around the village and perhaps buy a little souvenir!

Safe journey home

Although your 48 hours may be up, Camping in the Forest have nine other sites located within the New Forest. And what’s more, they have a range of fantastic offers and discounts, so get the diary out and start booking.
