It’s that magical time of year where there’s a big build up to the big day! And of course there are lots of things going on for Christmas (keep a look out for our upcoming blog for some of the highlights) but we’ve also got a busy schedule of non-Christmas related events taking place this month too. Take a look at some of the things that you can get involved with…

Discover some of our exhibition spaces

Shelter from those colder days and soak up some culture at some of the New Forest’s exhibition spaces.

Within the St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery in Lymington you can see the Unsettled Landscapes: The Art of the Eerie exhibition until 8 January. This eery exhibition looks beyond the stereotypical image of the British countryside from the 20th and 21st centuries. An exhibition that is guaranteed to make you think!

If nature is your thing then the Wildlife Wanderings - photography exhibition continues to be held at the New Forest Heritage Centre. The exhibition features works by award-winning wildlife photographer, David Bailey. It runs until 9 January.

Join a New Forest discovery walk

Ever wanted to embark on a new walk in the forest but not sure where to start? Join Wild New Forest for one of their New Forest Discovery Walks. Pick from a Lymington walk which follows the Lymington River and the seawall to Oxey Marsh or a walk around Millyford, passing through ancient woodland and stopping for some panoramic views of the New Forest. Find out more about the New Forest’s nature and history along the way. These walks run various dates throughout December.

Enjoy a variety of musical events

No matter what your music tastes, you will find plenty of choice to tempt you to the forest. Look out for the Live at Lepe event on 10 December. Held at The Lookout at Lepe Beach, this makes for an ideal date night or a great night out with friends.

Forest Arts Centre, in New Milton, has a busy programme for December including The Last Inklings (3 December), St Agnes Foundation (14 December) and Lauren Housley (17 December).

Pop along to some of our markets

As well as our regular street markets in Lymington, Ringwood, New Milton and Hythe, there will be a special Ringwood Antiques & Arts Market, coming to the town on 4 December. Look out for antiques, collectables, vintage and retro items as well as work from local artisans. The market will take place at the Furlong Shopping Centre & The Gateway Concourse – perfect for picking up some Christmas presents!

Celebrate the New Year in style

If you love to celebrate the New Year in style then check out the New Year’s Eve Party at the Balmer Lawn Hotel’s unique outdoor dining venue. Wrap up warm in your 'Ski Chic' outfits and snuggle under the blankets and heaters ready to celebrate the arrival of 2022!

A final note from us

This is just a taster of what’s happening during December here in the New Forest. Take a look at our events listings for other events taking place. And don’t forget to look out for our Christmas events too – our Christmas blog will be going live soon.
