About

DISCOVER THE ISLE OF WIGHT WITH WIGHTLINK

Couples and families staying in the New Forest can add an extra dimension to their trip with a day out across the water on the picturesque Isle of Wight. Travel on Wightlink's smart new fleet of 21st century ferries, the Wight Class, to find 60 miles of beaches, including two Blue Flag award-winners - Sandown and Ventnor, more than 500 miles of footpaths across some of the UK's most varied countryside, as well as theme parks, animal attractions and even Britain's first purpose-built dinosaur museum. It is just a short hop across the Solent with Wightlink (0871 376 1000 www.wightlink.co.uk) from Lymington to West Wight, reputedly one of the Island's most scenic parts.

After a short 30 minute journey, the ferry docks in Yarmouth, one of the Isle of Wight's prettiest towns, with its harbour packed with fishing boats and quaint cobbled streets lined with art and craft galleries, gift and antique shops. From here, visitors can walk onto Freshwater Way and take in harbour views, or head to the Island's most famous landmark, the Needles.

To cater for the differing tastes of Island visitors, Wightlink produces a range of themed booklets and online guides. These include Wight History Trail, a 33-stop trail around the living history of the Island, Green Getaways guide to green accommodation, Wight Taste Trail, which profiles the very best local food, and Easy Peasy Pedalling - a cycling guide featuring six easy rides, designed with families and leisure cyclists in mind. All are available free from Wightlink by calling 0871 376 1000 or to view on the website at www.wightlink.co.uk/themedbreaks

A Wightlink day return ticket for a car and up to four passengers costs from £36, although special offer rates are often available to online bookers and details can be found at www.wightlink.co.uk/specialoffers
