About

Listed Building of Ringwood – A Ringwood Society Exhibition - Ringwood Meeting House - 10 February 2020 to 20 March 2020 inclusive

Did you know that there are over 100 buildings, features and items within the Parish of Ringwood which are Listed as being of significant merit? These include 3 milestones, two railings several churches and a fish and chip shop. The majority are in or near the town centre most of which is included in a Conservation Area. Together these set a style and scale which makes Ringwood a unique and wonderful place to live, work and play.

Following on from previous exhibitions at the Meeting House, the Ringwood Society is presenting a new exhibition from Monday 10 February 2020 featuring photographs of many of the Listed Buildings along with descriptions of the features which are seen to be of merit. We also aim to explain what constitutes a Listed Building and what exactly constitutes a Conservation Area.

To start things off we have invited Kevin Stubbs, a Historic Buildings Consultant and Author, to present a talk on Ringwood's architectural heritage on Monday 10th February commencing at 7.30pm – All are welcome - Entry Free – Refreshments available.

The Ringwood Society was formed in 1962 with the aim of protecting the character and ensuring the quality of buildings and features in the town. We are very conscious of the huge development proposed in the Local Plan and, along with many others, have been active in trying to mitigate the impact on the town. We are certainly not against change and modern architecture which if properly utilised can prove to be an asset . What we do not want to see is anonymous "off the shelf design", materials and buildings which have no relation to the scale, heritage and fabric of a New Forest Market Town. We want Ringwood to retain its local distinctiveness and not become just another dormitory town on the map.

The Ringwood Society is grateful to members Joe Moorhouse and Mary Baldwin for the production of the exhibition.
