There’s something truly special about May in the New Forest. As the days grow longer and the air warms, the landscape gently shifts into a new season and here at Hockey’s Farm Shop, it’s one of our favourite times of year.
Cuckoo Copse is a peaceful corner of the farm, known for its beautiful bluebells each spring. While their peak is fleeting, they signal the arrival of those longer, lighter days we all look forward to. Even as the bluebells begin to fade, the woodland remains a place to slow down, take a breath and enjoy the natural beauty of the New Forest.
As spring rolls on, something else begins… BBQ season.
With warmer weekends on the horizon, it’s time to fire up the grill and our on-site butchery is ready. Our skilled team prepare everything fresh, right here at Hockey’s, using high-quality, locally sourced meat. Whether you’re planning a laid-back garden BBQ or a family get-together, we’ve got you covered.
Our handmade burgers are always a favourite, with options including classic 100% beef, flavour-packed beef and onion, and our ever-popular Louisiana burgers, perfect for a May weekend with a bit of sunshine. Alongside these, you’ll find a wide selection of sausages, all made on site, bringing together traditional recipes and bold, seasonal flavours.
Alongside great food, May is also the perfect time to spend a little longer exploring and learning more about the landscape around us. Our monthly Commoners Walk & Talk Breakfasts continue to grow in popularity, offering a unique chance to hear directly from those who live and work within the New Forest. These relaxed, engaging mornings combine a hearty breakfast with a short talk before heading out on a guided walk, giving a real insight into the traditions, wildlife and conservation that shape this special place.
It’s this connection between land, season and plate that makes food here in the New Forest so special. From rare breed meats to low food miles, everything we do is rooted in quality and provenance.
