With a history dating back to 1742, the traditional English character of this country house hotel is reflected through its roaring open fires, large cosy sofas, beautiful oak paneling, individually designed bedrooms and suites, all of which combine to create a truly homely atmosphere. A rural retreat with food at its heart. Quintessentially English yet perfectly individual.
Effortlessly intuitive service combines with a unique character and charm to create a time and space that are just for you. In 2019, the Montagu Arms received a 4 red star award at AA Hotel Awards. Red stars (as opposed to black stars) is an accolade for the most outstanding hotels in the UK, offering excellent levels of quality throughout, outstanding levels of hospitality and service.⠀⠀
The Terrace Restaurant has three AA Rosettes and is run by NEW Head Chef Matthew Whitfield who recently returned to the UK from one of the world’s top restaurants. Working under renowned chef Daniel Humm at Eleven Madison Park, Matthew has extensive experience at a succession of Michelin-starred restaurants. His style of cooking is modern and refined using the best of the New Forest and the hotel’s home-grown produce to create dishes that take local provenance really seriously. Matthew’s food engages all the senses, bringing a sense of theatre to the table with dishes such as smoked partridge – served under a cloche, the smell of gorse burning in the New Forest drifts into the air engaging the diner within an age-old practice integral to the national park. Matt takes food waste very seriously at The Terrace and excites diners with his nose to tail cooking.
Since the 16th Century there has always been an inn on the site of the Montagu Arms. Originally a meeting place for farmers, timber traders and parish officers the inn, now known as Monty’s Inn, is very much at the heart of Beaulieu. Country fare using fresh, local and organic ingredients and classic English favourites combine with award winning fine hand pulled local ales to provide the cosy country pub atmosphere that Monty’s has become renowned for with locals and visitors alike. Take advantage of the Inn’s ideal location and enjoy something a little more laid back to retire to after your exploration of the beautiful New Forest.
Taking ingredients from the forest itself as well as the nearby coast and farms, the quality of the food stems from our trusted regional suppliers. Suppliers such as Exbury Gardens who are so close, they can deliver vegetables within ten minutes of them coming out of the ground. The kitchen garden also produces a variety of seasonal vegetables and herbs thanks to the nurturing hands of Head Gardener, Barry Daniel.
Afternoon tea at The Montagu Arms is a ritual not to be missed. A proud member of the prestigious Tea Guild and its recent “Excellence Award” recognises this as a Top 100 place to take afternoon tea in the UK. Guests are served a mouth-watering selection of finely cut sandwiches, speciality cakes (including fresh baked scones smothered in New forest Jam and thick clotted cream) all complimented by a selection of fair trade loose leaf teas and coffee.
For extra pampering, guests at The Montagu Arms have preferential rates at the state of the art Thai SenSpa, located just six miles across the beautiful New Forest at sister hotel Careys Manor. SenSpa offers a hydrotherapy pool, herbal sauna, crystal steam room, ice room, and experience showers, relaxation rooms, with a full range of treatments including facials, massage, body scrubs, body wraps and more.
