Bolderwood

One of the most popular spots in the New Forest, Bolderwood is a must-visit for anyone interested in trees. The Arboretum here is home to a variety of tree species, including ancient oaks, towering Douglas firs, and sweet chestnuts. What makes Bolderwood particularly special is the deer viewing platform, where you can often spot these majestic animals. With multiple walking trails, it’s easy to explore this location and enjoy the stunning canopy above.

Knightwood Oak

If you want to see one of the oldest and most famous trees in the New Forest, head to the Knightwood Oak. This ancient oak tree is estimated to be over 600 years old and is often referred to as the “Queen of the Forest.” The tree’s massive trunk and sprawling branches are a testament to its age and resilience

Tall Trees Trail

Follow the Tall Trees Trail, where you’ll come across the a view that will make you say “wow”… with the two giant sequoias, which are the biggest trees in the New Forest!  There are also many impressive Douglas fir trees along this trail, too.

Blackwater Arboretum

With a gorgeous drive to get there through Rhinefield Ornamental Drive, another fantastic spot to visit to see a fabulous array of trees is Blackwater Arboretum. This area is home to a diverse collection of trees from around the world, including conifers, oaks, and beeches. The Arboretum has several walking trails that allow you to explore at your own pace, and there are information boards along the way that provide details about the different trees.

Matley Wood

Head to a quieter spot and visit the peaceful location of Matley Wood. This area is known for its ancient oak and beech trees, which create a canopy of leaves that filters the sunlight and casts a dappled shade on the forest floor. Matley Wood is a great place for a peaceful walk, and if you're lucky, you might spot some of the New Forest’s famous ponies grazing among the trees.

Mark Ash Wood

Mark Ash Wood is one of the oldest and most atmospheric woodlands in the New Forest, where the largest beech tree is located!  The twisted, gnarled trunks of these trees give the wood an almost mystical quality. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale as you wander through the ancient woodlands here.
