There’s plenty to occupy you this December, whether you are looking for a festive day out with all the family or a long walk to counteract any Christmas indulgence!
Let us inspire you with some of the top things to do in the New Forest this month…

Local singer, Peter Burns will be making his return to Back of Beyond Touring, Camping & Glamping Park for an evening of festive songs (6 December).

If you feel like getting creative, there are a number of wreath making workshops taking place; St Barbe Museum & Art Gallery (2 December), Minstead Lodge (4 December) and Burley Manor (4 December).
Browse our event listings, or sign up for our weekly what’s on newsletter for more Christmas inspiration.
Pick your winter walks
There’s nothing better than blowing the cobwebs away on a long ramble. Breathe in the fresh, crisp air and see if you can spot any New Forest wildlife on a winter’s walk.

December is a great time to go on a New Forest pub walk as not only can you take in the views of our landscape at this magical time of year, you can enjoy a pit stop at a local hostelry where you can not only enjoy some local fare and a brew but perhaps even a roaring log fire. Bliss!
Alternatively, choose one of our coastal walks if you fancy embracing the elements. We have lots of walks to choose from, including those suitable for families plus dog-friendly routes.
December days out in the New Forest
Whether you are looking for something to do between Christmas and New Year (aka Twixmas!) or a day out in the lead up to the big day, you will still find some of our attractions are open during December.
Beaulieu makes an excellent day out – with its wealth of motoring memorabilia and cars at the National Motor Museum, its beautiful grounds and of course, Palace House.

Paultons Park will be open on selected days throughout December for lots of fun and adventures. Take your little ones into Peppa Pig World or test out your sense of adventure on some of the faster paced rides.
New Forest Activities runs a number of events and activities throughout the month including winter paddles along the Beaulieu River and BattleZone – The Great Grinch Heist (suitable for ages 8+).
Insight Activities will also be open throughout the month for their outdoor activities including their Medieval Trio activity – archery, crossbows and axe throwing.

Or, why not spend time in some of our towns and villages? Take a wander down our streets, explore our boutiques and discover some of our artisan producers including the very tempting Burley Fudge Shop.
Try a spot of winter cycling
Take to the New Forest on two wheels this December. Hire a bike and equipment from one of our cycle hire shops or bring your own and explore our beautiful National Park using our various cycleways and tried and tested routes.
For an added bit of adventure, join in with a guided cycle ride with one of our local cycling companies – let them take the stress of navigating away and meet like-minded people on an epic ride out.
