The New Forest Dog Owners Group began in May 2001. When nearly all the Foot and Mouth restrictions had been lifted, dogs were still required to be on leads in the New Forest. A small group got together, who cared passionately about retaining the traditional freedom of walking our dogs on the forest freely. That battle was won, but the work continues today to promote responsible ownership, welfare for dogs, and engaging with the authorities (in close and good cooperation) to promote the activities of dog owners and walkers. A key element is visitors who may not know of our unique environment. Supporting work around Ground nesting Birds and other sensitive issues is a key part of NFDOG's work. We have also supported work into Alabama Rot (CRGV) which first emerged locally in 2013 and have raised tens of thousands of pounds to fun research. NFDOG is the largest single purpose consumer group in the New Forest with 1200 memebers, who receive a twice yearly newslettr, and meet us at shows. Membership is maintained at £5.00 a year.
