As the leaves begin to change and the summer heat eases off, September is a beautiful time of year to make that trip you’ve been thinking of to the New Forest.

In this blog, we showcase just some of the fabulous reasons why you should get planning your next New Forest adventure…

1. Watch the autumn colours begin to take hold

Those vibrant greens of our beech and oak trees begin to change as the richness of the yellows, oranges and golds replace them. Being slightly cooler, it can make for a great time of year to take in one of our woodland walks that criss-cross the forest. Choose from family-friendly short walks to longer hikes for those looking for a full day’s walking adventure. If you are lucky, you may even get to spot some of the forest’s resident pigs, they’ll be released into the forest to snuffle up the fallen acorns - a vital part of the New Forest’s ecology.

2. Spot the planes in the Taking Flight Community Art Trail

From 1 September, Gallery 68 in Hythe, will be taking part in the Taking Flight Community Art Trail in association with the Army Flying Museum. There will be knitted mini planes made by over 30 community groups on display as well the artworks of resident international artist Alli Cullimore, along with other local New Forest artists.

Why not combine your visit with a stroll around Hythe marina for panoramic views of Southampton water or to check out the weekly street market held within the town?

3. The return of Dogstival!

The ever-popular Dogstival, held 5-6 September in the idyllic Burley Park is set to return. Celebrate all things dog-related and be sure to bring your four-legged friend along for the adventure! Make a day of it, with our dog friendly pubscafes and also our fabulous dog walks to enjoy too!

4. Take in all the sights and sounds of a visit to Beaulieu

Home of the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu has received VisitBritain’s ‘Good to Go’ industry standard meaning that they are following Government and industry Covid-19 safety guidelines. See over 280 vehicles including some made famous from TV and movies and take in the immense history of Palace House and Beaulieu Abbey. Your ticket includes entry to all three attractions.

5. Seek some high-adrenalin fun with New Forest Activities

Also ‘Good to Go’ are New Forest Activities. Offering you a choice of fun-filled activities in the heart of the forest. Why not give archery a go? Or try your hand a learning bush craft skills? If you have a head for heights then the high and low ropes course is a must too. Look out for themed activities such as a ladies only paddle and the Woodland Adventure Day, both of which are taking place in September.

6. Cycle our off-road trails and tracks

An amazing way to immerse yourself into the nature of the New Forest is to rent a bike from one of our cycle hire shops. Download some of our cycling routes and off you go! Why not pack a picnic and stop along the way for a scenic lunch? Or combine your adventure with a pitstop at one of our local cafes or tea rooms? Pre-booking is strongly recommended.
